State comes and goes but how does it come and go in other states like California? Here in California, there is one state champion for the entire state in both the girls’ and boys’ division. One of the largest states in the United, you would think they would eventually find a better way. It is not equal for all athletes in the state of California and there are advantages to not being in the southern section California, the toughest and hardest section in California CIF. Other states like South Carolina, Texas, Georgia, and others are managed a bit different.Which is best, is beyond us, but this issue will give you some insight.
On the cover we have a boy athlete participating in the 2022 master’s division of California state. Big bend and killer inversion took place right after this vault. We had the wonderful opportunity to be on hand with our cameras to get the shots and see what the state meet is all about. Sara has some rightful insight with some well-known coaches about the state process. Fun to see and read what other states go through to get to state.
AZPVA and a great write up by Jason Yarbrough a parent with a great boy pole vaulter out of SoCal. “When Jan stepped away to focus on his camps, Dean stepped in as Cal Poly coach for several years and continued his personal vaulting career through the mid 1990’s capping a 19’5 PR and touted at the time as having the most 19 foot clearances of any American vaulter in history.” What a great read and we are honored to know Dean and Jason both.
Next month it is all about the long road to nationals and the ins and outs of which nationals to choose. There are a few of them and different levels that you can choose from depending on the heights that you make as a vaulter. Stay tuned, it will be a fun one.
