April is here and the sun is starting to come out all around the nation and especially Southern California. Vaulter Magazine, our training facility, magazine, and more are all running as to be expected. Meets are all running smoothly at a pace of two per month, articles are coming in, our facility just installed a new Richey pole vault pit, so we would like to think that things are looking up. At Vaulter Magazine training facility, it’s that time of the year when all kinds of athletes from around the United States come and join our club to vault. We love it and look forward to having athletes join us at a destination hot spot for pole vault.
Alysha Newman is on the cover of the magazine this month. This is her second time on the cover and the first time was a few years back when she just finished up at the Gators in Florida. Seems like yesterday and the time is flying. Sara Wagenveld brings this article to fruition with her insight on the high-ranking professional athlete. “I like to remind myself everywhere I go what my goals are. And to keep in mind what I'm really focusing on and what I want to accomplish and not get distracted. So I am very goal-oriented and I try to do everything I possibly can to put myself in the best possible situation to accomplish those goals.”
Bubba Sparks brings the MAC Vault Academy to our pages for the club spotlight. “The new gym in Navasota, TX consists of three pole vault pits with runways over 140 feet, a 60-meter speed track, a high jump pit, a long jump pit, a rope, rings, a high bar, a second-story viewing room, a media room, and a state-of-the-art weight room complete with hydraulic weight technology. The gym consists of everything an athlete needs to progress in their vault career.” A short article that is to the point. Thank you, Bubba, job well done.
The Olympic committee and WADA have a whole lot of action on their plate with Russia and the doping ban. Not to mention the lifting up of the Olympics during a worldwide pandemic. An amazing read by Taber Kreager, one that will enlighten us all on what to do and not do with the vaccine. “The IOC’s anti-doping regulations for the Games, released on 11 March 2021, are set to be the “most extensive” ever established. The program was developed in partnership with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and International Testing Agency (ITA) and has been designed to be remarkably thorough to ensure that athletes are competing fairly.”
May is right around the corner and this will be our 9th year publishing a magazine each month about the pole vault community. As we look back at this venture, we tend to think about how far we have come. The lookback is very quick as we plan for the future of the sport. Next issue we have Kent State, stay tuned.
